THE
PHOTOGRAPHER
Hello,
This is me - the infamous Julie Wilson. I live and work from my home in
Warburton, a small township about 1hours. drive from
Melbourne, Victoria, Australia.
Warburton is a
rural area specializing tourism, it is a beautiful place with
the Yarra River running through the centre of town.. I live on a
small property with two dogs Vinnie and Saffy, the cat Blanche
and various native animals who come and go as they please.
My
involvement with horses began at an early age when I would gallop bareback on my
ponies around the countryside, suffering the occasional tumble on the way. I am
now a qualified NCAS Level 1 equestrian coach and have competed successfully in
all equestrian disciplines. My experience with horses and all equestrian sport,
combined with my skill as a photographer has placed me at the forefront of
Australian equestrian photo journalism. Unfortunately I now have very little
time to compete but I still really enjoy working my young horse.
My interest in
photography began while I was doing a Arts course in 6th form at
school. After completing my nursing qualifications I them obtained my first job
in the photographic industry, taking photos of houses. During this employment I
also learnt about photographing weddings, studio portraits and framing. This is
where the Wixmore company was formed, specializing in horse photography. This
experience gave me a wonderful grounding for running my own business.
With
twenty years experience, the last
fifteen heading my own company with Anna
Sharpley - Julie Wilson Equestrian Photography. I have not only travelled
Australia wide but have also covered many of the most famous horse shows and
events in England, Europe and North America. I was Australia's only
full time professional equestrian photo journalist at
the Atlanta and Sydney Olympic Games and the World Championships in Rome,
Spain and Germany . My work appears in every
major Australian horse magazine, as well as prestigious international
publications, such as Horse
International. I also supplied 95% of the photos
for the annual publication
Australian Horsesports.
In Rome I was elected a
bureau member of the International Alliance of Equestrian Journalists. The
IAEJ was created in 1966 to promote
and maintain contacts among the equestrian journalists of all nations and as a
body connected with the FEI, to discuss problems in which the FEI and the
equestrian press are both involved. The bureau consists of 9 members from around
the world and is in charge of all current matters. I was
re-elected in 2002 and 2006.
We have now moved into
digital technology, which is running along side our establish in-house
processing facilities. I am always looking at other photographers work
constantly trying to learn and improve my own photos.
I look forward to
receiving your e-mails
and I hope you enjoy may site.
Regards,
Julie.
